Anger Management Therapy in Dubai

Practical, evidence-based work on reactivity, outbursts, and irritability, with Dr. Fatima Abdullah. In person at Al Jadaf and Aljada, or online across the UAE.

What It Is

What Is Anger Management Therapy?

Anger management therapy is structured psychological work that reduces how often anger escalates and how much damage it does when it does. It combines understanding your triggers, catching the physical build-up earlier, and practising specific regulation and communication skills.

Anger itself is not the problem. It is a normal signal that something matters, a boundary has been crossed, or a need is going unmet. The difficulty is the speed and size of the response, and what it costs the people around you.

The goal is not to stop feeling angry. It is to widen the gap between the trigger and the reaction, so anger becomes information you can act on deliberately rather than something that acts on you first.

Recognising the Pattern

How Do You Know If You Need Anger Management?

The clearest signal is not the size of any single outburst, it is the pattern around it: how often it happens, how quickly it arrives, and whether people close to you have started managing their behaviour to avoid triggering it.

  • Reacting faster than you can stop yourself, then regretting it afterwards
  • People around you managing their behaviour to avoid setting you off
  • Frequent irritability over things you know are minor
  • Physical build-up: clenched jaw, tight chest, heat, racing heart
  • Arguments escalating far beyond the original subject
  • Anger at work or while driving that feels out of proportion
  • Guilt, shame, or exhaustion in the hours after an outburst
  • Suppressing anger for long periods until it surfaces all at once
Underlying Drivers

What Causes Anger to Escalate?

Anger is frequently the visible surface of something else. Treating the outburst without identifying what feeds it is why many people find that techniques alone stop working after a few weeks.

Anxiety

A nervous system already running hot has little margin left. Anger is often the outward face of sustained anxiety.

Unprocessed Trauma

Where the threat response is easily triggered, anger arrives as protection long before conscious thought catches up.

Depression

Irritability is a core feature of depression, particularly in men and adolescents, and is frequently missed.

Chronic Stress

Work pressure, financial strain, and relocation stress steadily lower the threshold at which anger takes over.

Learned Patterns

Where anger was the only permitted emotion growing up, it can become the default response to every difficult feeling.

Sleep & Health

Poor sleep, pain, and burnout measurably reduce emotional regulation before any psychological factor is considered.

Where anxiety is the driver, anxiety therapy in Dubai usually comes first. Where the root is unprocessed trauma, trauma therapy or EMDR is often the faster route.

Evidence-Based Methods

Which Therapies Work for Anger?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has the strongest evidence base for anger, and is combined at Enliven with DBT regulation skills, Schema Therapy, or mindfulness depending on what is driving the reactivity.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Identifies the thoughts and interpretations that convert a situation into a threat, and builds alternative responses through structured practice between sessions.

DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Provides concrete distress-tolerance and emotion-regulation skills for the moments when anger is already rising and reasoning alone will not hold.

Schema Therapy

Early Maladaptive Schema Work

For anger rooted in early experience, such as a persistent sense of being disrespected, controlled, or treated unfairly.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness-Based Regulation

Trains earlier recognition of the physical build-up, widening the gap between trigger and reaction where change becomes possible.

Timelines

How Long Does Anger Management Take?

Skills-focused work often produces noticeable change within 8–12 sessions. Where anger sits on top of anxiety or trauma, the course is longer because the driver is treated alongside it. These are typical ranges rather than promises.

PresentationTypical courseWhat the work involves
Skills-focused anger work8-12 sessionsRecognising escalation early and building reliable regulation responses.
Anger driven by anxiety3-5 monthsTreating the underlying anxiety alongside the anger itself.
Trauma-driven reactivity4-9 monthsUsually needs trauma processing before the reactivity settles.
Adolescent anger10-16 sessionsOften includes parent sessions and coordination around school.

Getting Started

How Do You Start Anger Management in Dubai?

Start with a 50-minute discovery session for AED 500. Most people come because someone else raised it first, and that is a perfectly reasonable way to begin.

  1. 01

Book a 50-minute discovery session. No referral or diagnosis is required.

  2. 02

Map the pattern together: triggers, early physical signs, and what happens immediately before an outburst.

  3. 03

Agree whether the work is primarily skills-based, or whether an underlying driver needs treating first.

  4. 04

Practise between sessions, since anger regulation is learned in daily life rather than in the room.

Where anger is affecting a relationship specifically, couples therapy alongside individual work is often more effective than either on its own.
