Trauma Therapy in Dubai
Specialised, compassionate support for PTSD, complex trauma, childhood wounds, and relational hurt, helping you move through it, not around it.
What Is Trauma Therapy?
Trauma therapy is a specialised form of psychological treatment that helps the brain and nervous system finish processing an experience that overwhelmed them at the time. It differs from general counselling because it works with the body’s stress response directly, not only with conscious thought.
Trauma is not defined by the event itself, but by how it is stored. When an experience overwhelms our capacity to cope, the brain encodes it differently, without context, without resolution, and often without language. Years later, a smell, a sound, or a look can trigger a response that feels like the threat is happening right now.
This is not weakness. It is the nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do, protect you. Trauma therapy works with that system, not against it, helping the brain finally complete the stress cycle and file the memory as something that happened in the past.

How Do You Know If You Need Trauma Therapy?
Consider trauma therapy if a past experience still intrudes on your present. You do not need a formal PTSD diagnosis to benefit, and the event does not need to look severe enough to anyone else. What matters is the effect it is still having on you now.
- Flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares about what happened
- Avoiding people, places, or conversations that bring the memory back
- Feeling permanently on edge, easily startled, or unable to relax
- Emotional numbness, or feeling detached from yourself and others
- Reactions that feel disproportionate to the situation in front of you
- Sleep disruption, unexplained physical tension, or digestive problems
- Persistent shame, self-blame, or a belief that you are fundamentally damaged
- Difficulty trusting people, or repeating the same painful relationship patterns
If several of these feel familiar, a discovery session is the simplest way to talk it through without committing to a course of therapy.

How Does Trauma Therapy Work?
Trauma therapy at Enliven follows three phases: stabilisation, processing, and integration. Processing never begins until you have the regulation tools to handle it, which is what separates trauma-informed care from simply retelling a painful story.
Safety & Stabilisation
Before any processing begins, you build practical regulation tools, grounding, breathing, and containment, so difficult material never leaves you overwhelmed between sessions. For many people this phase alone brings noticeable relief.
Processing
Using EMDR, somatic work, or trauma-focused CBT, the memory is revisited in a structured, contained way. The goal is not to relive it but to let the brain finally file it as something that happened in the past.
Integration & Reconnection
Work shifts to rebuilding: relationships, identity, confidence, and the parts of life trauma narrowed. This phase consolidates change so it holds after therapy ends.

Trauma-Informed Care at Enliven
Every therapeutic relationship at Enliven begins with safety. Dr. Fatima Abdullah draws on more than 20 years of experience in mental health and education, and selects whichever approach best serves your needs rather than applying a rigid protocol when your nervous system needs flexibility.
Work is paced to your window of tolerance. Regulation tools are embedded throughout, so you always have the resources to manage what surfaces between sessions.
Sessions run in English or Arabic, in person at the Al Jadaf clinic in Dubai, at Aljada in Sharjah, or online across the UAE. Many clients living in the Emirates are far from their original support networks, and that isolation is treated as part of the clinical picture, not a detail on the side.
Which Trauma Therapies Does Enliven Use?
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing
The gold-standard for trauma processing. Bilateral stimulation helps the brain integrate distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge. Recommended for PTSD by the World Health Organization and NICE (UK).
Somatic Therapy
Body-Based Trauma Release
Trauma lives in the body. Somatic techniques help regulate the nervous system, release stored tension, and restore a felt sense of safety, particularly where talking alone has not shifted the symptoms.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Structured cognitive work to challenge trauma-driven beliefs, reduce avoidance behaviours, and rebuild adaptive thinking patterns. One of the most extensively researched treatments for PTSD.
Schema Therapy
Early Maladaptive Schema Work
For deep-rooted patterns from childhood experiences, identifies and heals the core wounds driving current emotional responses, especially where trauma began early and shaped identity.
Where trauma is the primary presenting issue, EMDR therapy in Dubai is often the fastest route to relief. Where anxiety is the dominant symptom, anxiety therapy in Dubai may be the better starting point.
How Long Does Trauma Therapy Take?
Single-incident trauma often responds well within 8–16 sessions. Complex or developmental trauma usually needs a longer therapeutic relationship, frequently six months or more. The figures below are typical ranges rather than promises, and Dr. Fatima will set a realistic roadmap with you in the first session.
| Type of trauma | Typical course | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Single-incident trauma | 8-16 sessions | One identifiable event, such as an accident, assault, or medical emergency. |
| Complex or developmental trauma | 6-18 months | Prolonged or repeated experiences, often beginning in childhood. |
| Relational or attachment trauma | 4-12 months | Patterns formed through close relationships, abuse, or neglect. |
| Traumatic grief | 12-24 sessions | Bereavement complicated by shock, guilt, or unresolved trauma. |
How Much Does Trauma Therapy Cost in Dubai?
